Starting nursery can be nerve-wracking for both you and your child. It is a big step from having them by your side every day. You will have so many worries on your mind, but it’s an exciting time for your child.
At First Steps Grimsby Ltd, this month’s blog looks at how you can prepare your child for their transition to nursery. For more information, call us on 01472 352 524.
Build Their Confidence
If your child does not cry and freely goes into nursery, this means they are feeling confident. However, do not worry if that isn’t the case. Each child develops at their own pace and if yours is struggling with separation, it is not an issue.
At our nursery, we ensure all children are involved. This helps them to feel more settled and gradually builds their confidence. Confidence is important for any child as it grows along with them. Trying to build their confidence at home helps them prepare for nursery, making settling in easier on both you and your child.
Visit Local Nurseries
You should always visit a few nurseries before making a choice. This ensures you make the right choice for you and your child. This is also a great way for your child to meet the nursery staff.
Take advantage of this by asking questions and telling them about your child. Additionally, you can also ask them about their settling in procedure and what to do if your child gets upset. Our staff at First Steps will make sure your child is happy and settled at our nursery.
Arrange Playdates with Other Children
Nursery can be daunting to some children. Others will take it in their stride. It can take some time to settle without having parent around, so it is important your child is comfortable around other children.
Arrange a play date with at least one child from nursery. Once your child sees a familiar face, they will feel more relaxed and happier to wander into nursery.
Don’t Panic
Nursery is a huge step for the both of you. If they didn’t settle well and cried on the first day, don’t panic. It can often take time for a child to adapt to a new setting which is why we are on hand to help.
Our staff and First Steps will do everything to make the transition easier.
